'SLATE' - Path For Knowledge

Investment on children is an investment for generations. Investment on children is more productive than any other investment in any sector. The under privileged children were discriminated and delinked from the quality education because of their poverty, parental illiteracy and casteism. In this context, I CAN has made conscious efforts to promote children development through various strategies which are given below:

How it works:
I CAN volunteers identify slum communities where the situation of child rights violations is critical.
I CAN supports volunteers in doing a need assessment in the slums.
Based on the observations and findings, the volunteers design a plan of action, following which the volunteers initiate education programme (SLATE) in the area.
I CAN trains the volunteers on a periodic basis to effectively implement the programme.
I CAN Volunteer went these slum areas on daily basis to provide these children a healthy and good environment.
School Enrolment programme:

In every slum or urban settlement in our working areas that volunteers engage in, they come across children who do not go to school. Either they have dropped out or they have never been enrolled to one. Volunteers who work in these areas undertake focused enrolment drives once or twice a year, with the aim of identifying dropouts and enrolling them in the nearest government or private schools.

Other then this, in order to prevent school drop outs and to make them to continue their education, children's free tuition programme was introduced in six slum areas of Jaipur. Totally over 140 children are benefited. In each centre, a qualified volunteer collects the students and provides evening tuition to children on free of cost. I CAN take care of their all expenses related to education, food, health and hygiene.

In a compartmentalized world, the rights of women and those of children have often been promoted in isolation from one another.

"I CAN" shows how discrimination and other human rights violations against women affect children and vice versa.
